Victorious, a young jazz/blues band, is playing for us at Leif Erikson Hall, 2245 NW 57th Street, Seattle WA 98107 following the auctions. Victoria Mjolsnes who is of Norwegian descent, is the lead singer. A recent graduate of the Cornish College of the Arts, she is an accomplished performer and will add much to the festivities. The meal includes Dungeness Crab or Cornish Game Hen, baked potato, coleslaw, garlic bread, beverage, and dessert auction. There is a no host bar during the evening. The event is sponsored by Leif Erikson Lodge 2-001 Scholarship Committee.

The Leif Erikson Hall Office, 206-783-1274, from 10AM-3PM Monday thru Friday is selling tickets now. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for students and children 12 and under. Make your checks payable to the LEL Scholarship Fund. After Tuesday, January 19, 2010, tickets will be $30.00 since they have to go out and catch the crab for our order and they’ll have to go again for any latecomers. The Lifetime Learning Center Comes to Ballard

September 9, 2009 in Ballard by BallardGuy

Seattle’s premier program of study courses for older adults is coming to Ballard.

The Lifetime Learning Center, which offers courses from James Joyce and Opera to current events and watercolor, originated in lower Queen Anne in the 70s and moved to the Magnuson Park area a decade ago, will begin teaching classes at the Loyal Heights Community Center this fall.

With the support of Seattle Parks & Recreation, LLC presents The Civil War—Beyond the Battles. Taught by Pete Mazza, the class is scheduled for Tuesdays 11-12 beginning September 29 for eight weeks. Bill Taylor teaches Islam and the West on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10:45 beginning October 6 for eight weeks.

Studies show that for a fulfilled life in retirement, staying mentally sharp and making friends with shared interests are invaluable. For more details about these classes, go to www.lifetimelearningseattle.org or call (206) 524-3778.
