Granny - you are definitely correct. The city employees who definitely do not suffer this hardship are its legislative and executive members.

Buscorrector - It would be quite the precedent for them to close down the DPD, but that might slow down the endless slew of permits for condo development.... I guess I am conceding a lot in my article, but I still feel like I was assertive in my beliefs that there is probably much better ways to trim money off the budget (even at the alleged $650,000 dollars they estimate to be saving). While I cannot engage in the old/new Ballard debate, it is good to know that others share my views.

When this city closes down the DPD for a week instead of the libraries then I'll know that things have changed. And this is a liberal city?

A striking note in this article is the apologetic tone. What a beaten down population we have when someone has to apologize profusely for a mild criticism especially when the criticism is so completely justified. It is the new Ballard.

And please give a thought to the wonderful library employees (I am not one), especially the part time.
It's good to have a job, but hard to lose a week wages. Most City employees do not suffer this relative hardship.
