Are We Losing Our Ballard Post Office?
BallardGuy December 24th, 2008
The rumors continue about possibly losing our centrally located Ballard post office. Apparently, according to the rumor, those in charge have decided to move the facility to the postal annex on the corner of 9th Ave NW and NW 45th, about 17 blocks from its present location.
This post office is presently located in the heart of Ballard and within walking distance of a great many residents. There are many small businesses in the area also dependent on the post office. You are urged to write your public official if you want to keep our Ballard post office where it is.

Living the east side of 15th AVE NW, I would be very happy to have the post office near “our” Fred Meyer Shopping center, but, the original post office should stay open for the reasons you suggested. I would suggest that mini post offices be placed throughout the community, providing a mailing kisoks where packages can be weighed, measured, and postage applied. IN the kisok would be a computer with a zip code finder, postal rate calculator, and questions answered as to which class an item would fit into and approximate time for delivery based on postage. Is that too much to asks? If a package is over 1 lb then deputized clerks could be in certain businesses to accept them to be picked up by postal carriers on a daily basis. ( ie city Library, Office supply stores). The one thing I hate about the Ballard current location is the outside mail drop should be in the middle of the street and the express mail boxes that were on 14th NE be replaced, and all boxes should have a 5:00 pick up. Thank God, my mailperson will take outgoing mail from my residence.
