Fair Trade Fair and Pancake Breakfast at Salmon Bay School
Come to Salmon Bay Schoolfor a double decker event. We will be serving up a delicious pancake breakfast from 9-11 on Saturday November 22, $5.00 per person, or $20.00 per family. After you are well fed, stay for the fair trade event taking place from 9-3. Booths will include Guatemalan textiles from UKUSH, rolled paper bead jewelry from Beads For Life, Pura Vida coffee, Heifer International and Theo Chocolates.
This event supports the Bridges to Understanding program that many of the 7th and 8th graders participate in yearly. Through Bridges, they have a partner program in Guatemalacalled Fotokids. The program engages students worldwide in direct, interactive learning and storytelling to build cross-cultural understanding.
Students will also be sharing what they have been learning about fair trade from the Get It! Curriculum published by Heifer. This includes an in depth study of fair trade issues focused on coffee from Guatemala, flowers from Colombia, and bananas from Ecuador.

You’re invited to NYFA’s fourth annual Silent Auction fund raiser, taking place this Saturday, November 8th from 6-10 PM, with bidding ending at 9:30 PM. We have donations from local businesses and artists -coffee, gift cards, paintings, pictures, art objects, clothing, gift certificates, accessories, fine wine and port, restaurants, local events and more; all suitable for gifting. 100% of the auction proceeds support the academy student’s upcoming runway fashion show, Prima La Luce: “First Light” which will take place on April 11th, 2009.
